Canoeing down the Dordogne river

Canoeing was definitely a highlight from our trip. All 20-something of us piled into a bus to go upriver and then onto 8 or 9 canoes to canoe back down to where our cars were parked. Roughly about 18 kilometers.

Once we got the system down, canoeing was great fun! And we had a spectacular view of the Beynac château. We also saw Domme a little further down the river to the left, but we were having so much fun canoeing we forgot to take pictures. Oops!

I love this photo. It looks like the château is going to fall right off of its perch. It was such a gorgeous day and the castle against the dazzling blue sky way up over our heads made it look so majestic.

This will remain one of my favorite memories of our vacation. We were pretty tired towards the end of the 18 kilometers and most of us suffered from some pretty bad sunburns, myself included. I had slathered sunblock all over my children, but I personally didn't use any sun protection at all because I wanted to get maximum sun and a head start on a good tan. OUCH! is all I can say. I could hardly move that night. But I would do it all again in a heartbeat!
