What's your fancy?
Shabby chic tan?
...or bubble gum pink?
To see the original tutorial click here,
but I've since modified a thing or two...
(These are my original bags.)
For starters, the finishing touches...
1. Instead of making bead handles, use the leftover fabric from the legs or a fabric belt to make matching fabric handles, then just hot glue them on!
2. Also using the fabric from the legs, make a rosette, then hot glue it on! For a great tutorial, click here. She uses crepe paper, but it's the same principle with fabric.
3. Rummage through your beads, gems and buttons to add any other finishing touches like the faux topaz that I hot glued front and center or the pink pearly bead in the middle of the three rosettes on my two most recent bags.
***
A few other modifications...
Once you've sewed a straight seam above the crotch and cut off the legs, you will want to sew in the corners (they just look a little awkward to me on my first bags pictured above)...
Just make sure your seams line up and then sew a straight seam across the corners...
You should be able to fold them in like this afterward to get a lunch bag shape.
Turn your bag right side out and the side should look like this...
The shape is a lot cuter and it also gives the handbag a sort of base.
Here it is again...
Here it is again...
The pink shorts I used to make this bag came with a belt that I just cut in half and hot glued on.
I made three rosettes of different sizes, then hot glued then on with a pink pearly bead in the middle of the trio.
All in pink, what do you think?

Even with the modifications, these are still super easy to make!
My girlsthrew temper tantrums because these weren't for them were tickled pink to wrap these up and give them to their friends for their birthdays!
So there you have it.

I have the perfect pair of courdoroy pants for this project! Great idea :)
ReplyDeleteI read the original tutorial a week or two ago and thought, "What a good idea!" I am looking forward to doing this project with my little girls once they outgrow some of their pants. I even browsed the bead aisle at Walmart the other day with this project in mind :0)
ReplyDeleteWoah, these are SO cool! I'm gonna have to show my sister.
ReplyDeleteI found you through Hope Studios Teach me Tuesday.
I love the pink one!
I grew up moving around too and lived in Ecuador as well. Quito. Went to Cotopaxi. You?

What a great idea! I am into trying out purses lately, this is a great idea for a child friendly purse.
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I'd love it if you'd stop by my Topsy Turvy Tuesday Link party and add these bags!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute. I've seen similar bags made with jeans, but I never thought of making the "leap" to other kinds of fabric! Awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll stop by ExpectMoore and add these to the Pocket Week Linky Party!
