The snow in Paris 2010

...Paris in the winter...
...ahhhh...
Can you think of anything more romantic?
Who wouldn't want to be in Paris in the month of December....

It's been "alerte orange" in the Paris area since last Saturday.
But nothing seemed to be happening....

Yesterday, soft fluffs of white snow started drifting peacefully from the sky....
And they kept falling and falling and falling and falling...
And before we knew it we had over 11 centimeters of snow....
Enough for making snowmen...

While some were building snowmen,
my children and I opted to stay warm inside of the house,
especially since the electricity went out....
....and we have an electric heat pump...
...that feeds hot water to our radiators...
...so the temperature inside the house started dropping...
...mmmm....
...snow in Paris!

Our gas stove was still working so we lit some candles...
...and gathered around the stovetop to make homemade popcorn...
That was fun.

In the meantime, Sam was trying to make his way home from work.
Driving conditions were poor
and circulation stagnant.

He sat in traffic for four hours in the freezing cold,
while contemplating spending the night in his car...
...but on sudden inspiration...
...instead drove in reverse on the emergency lane...
...made a u-turn...
...and made it safe and sound to his brother's house where he spent the night...
Ouf! Phew!
Others were not so lucky.

Oh, but we love Paris in the winter!

Ah... la France!

P.S. Stay cozy and warm!
